1/9/2007Larry Seltzer over at eWeek asks a question I've been wondering about recently. Who is inflating Windows Vista Security Expectations? I'm often amazed when I read some headline stating Windows Vista failed because it has vulnerabilities or that we're somehow freaking out over the security of the product. I'm very proud to stand by the work we've done. And if somewhere more work needs to be done (and it does, so let's get that point out of the way right now, our work on security will never be done) we'll learn from it and make things even better.
Windows Vista is the most secure version of Windows we've produced to date. But "most secure" doesn't mean "perfect". And what's ironic about it is that we've been very clear about that from the start. (Larry calls out some specific examples, but some others are the many comments made by people like me, Michael Howard, Adam Shostack, and others that clearly point out that Windows Vista is not impervious to attack)
Ah well. I suppose there will always be the people out there who need to hype things up to knock them down later.
In other news there is a terrific wind storm hitting Duvall right now, with a large cold front moving through tonight with snow, and worse weather tomorrow. So just FYI that we might have to reintroduce "Generator Hours" back on the site, cause the power is already blinking on and off here.
